The need

Type 1 diabetes affects millions globally and demands relentless daily management. Despite existing treatments, patients face a lifetime of injections, complications, and emotional and physical burden. There is an urgent need for transformative research that can lead to more effective therapies and ultimately, a cure.

The work

The Bukhman Foundation’s historic £10 million gift has established the Bukhman Centre for Research Excellence at Oxford University. This multidisciplinary hub is advancing three key priorities: early identification and prevention, immune strategies to halt disease onset, and the development of cell therapies. It will also fund academic posts and scholarships, building long-term research capacity.
